Fragmented composers, painters’ succinct insanity,
dancers’ tumble, architects’ bizarre geometry,
a tree cast diagonal from rocks over fifty years
with tip curved toward heaven,
marmot in shadow, penstemon,
Indian paintbrush, tiger-lily,
cyclamen and lupine, black-eyed susan
and columbine, larch, aspen, poplar,
birch pine fir oak,
Relief Reservoir. Here the beauty of California
is eloquent as a man’s favorite spot
but my information deteriorates tonight
disturbed by a confusion of disciplines.
