The 4,000 Generations

fukushima boys

First amnesty for the unemployed,
then dollars to be given away freely
to the irresponsible poor, then
shamefaced abnegation of the space program
as cold speculation for commodities and markets,
then theaters of vision culled from
correct education and housing to investigate,
if there will be time left, a synthesis
of capitalism and communism since
even science fiction presumes wage slavery
while the presumed danger of fission waste shrinks
from two hundred thousand to six hundred years,
four thousand generations to twenty, death
for your heirs reduced by nothing at all,
so that we who are young begin fiercely
to believe in thyme, basil, rosemary, bay
and cayenne as if they had become myth, to
feel a ghastly pride in Africa.
